Collection contains legal documents and property records, plats, genealogical information, and miscellaneous items pertaining to the Bird family. Legal documents and property records include a deed (1875) registered in Laurens County, South Carolina conveying title to John S. Bird and his children Sallie M. Bird and William M. Bird, and the will (written 1892, proved 1906) of John S. Bird, which names his wife Pattie Ann Bird as executrix. Plats (1825-1892) are of lands in Laurens County, South Carolina. Genealogical information includes a "Family Record of John Bird of England and the Branch in America" (n.d.), an application (1902) of Pattie Ann Bird for membership in the North Carolina Society of Colonial Dames of America, and a biographical sketch of John Stiles Bird (1794-1887). Miscellaneous items include clippings of obituaries (n.d.) and a clipping of a letter (1891) to the editors of the Laurensville Herald. Letter from William M. Bird, Jr. at Charleston, South Carolina expresses outrage at the death sentence imposed upon ten black men convicted of murdering another black man. Attached to the letter is a list (1891) of subscribers who contributed money on behalf of the ten accused men.

Descendants of John Stiles Bird (1794-1887), who immigrated to Charleston, South Carolina from England in 1820. John Stiles Bird was a jeweller and silversmith and owned a store, John S. Bird & Co.
